My take on unpopular cards to make then viable

My take on unpopular cards to make then viable

Hello Reddit,

LOR is an amazing game and I love the diversity and all the cards I can use to create my decks. However, not all cards are created equally and some I believe could use some love.
In this post I will try to share some of my personal ideas for tweaks certain cards could receive that in my opinion would increase their popularity. Please feel free to share your opinion on the comments below.
_____________________________________

RULES:

  • No new mechanics.
  • No new cards will be summoned or created by the existing cards.
  • All changes will be thematic.
  • Changes are not aiming in making the cards overpowered. (If they do, that was my mistake)
_____________________________________

OBJECTIVES:

  1. Make existing unpopular cards add something to existing archetypes or become build-around for new decks.
  2. Add to the lore and world of runeterra.
  3. Keep the cards thematically the same.

VANGUARD LOOKOUT
. WHY THIS CARD?
Vanguard as a 1|4 has nothing to offer, and even with the Elite tag it does not even make the cut on Elite decks. Cannot block fearsome and have to compete with several other more useful 2 drops.

. CHANGELOG:
New effect:
I can block units with Elusive. (Same effect from Sharpsight therefore no coding needed)

New keyword:
Tough

Stat changes:
Health from 4 to 3

. EXPECTATIONS:
With those changes now Vanguard can offer something unique, being able to block Elusives in exchange of tempo and aggression this card can be a good option against metas where Zoe, Teemo or other Elusive units are present.
Having Tough also allows Vanguard to block MF/Scouts, Lucian and Zed. Having Vanguard Lookout in your deck can help you deal with aggression until your midgame or lategame plan comes online.

. FLAVOUR:
If we stablish that a unit with "Sharpsight" can block Elusives, and the Vanguard is a literally a lookout. We can assume that he from a advantage point could see Elusive units coming to sneak in Demacia.
If we compare Vanguard with his Freljord counterpart Avarosan Sentry, they thematically serve the same purpose, identify threats coming and help hold them off.
In the case of the Sentry, we can assume that he will attack the incoming threat with all he have, even if it cost his life, and on his drying breath he will alert the village. This is translated in-game as him having 2 attack and draw you a card when he dies, that card being the help that he called for.
In Vanguard's case, he would be the shield that stand between the enemies of Demacia and his homeland. He will hold them off until help comes. That can be translated on my new version as him not letting any Elusive units sneak in Demacia, and survive long enough (Until turn 4 or 5) so heroes like Garen, Jarvan, Galio, Lux comes to his aid.

ARENA BOOKIE
. WHY THIS CARD?
Arena Bookie should be in the core of the Arena Themed (Draven) decks, and I get the idea that if you have Draven's Axe, he would be replenishing your hand, which for an aggro deck is amazing.
But that is never the case, and even if you try to use him like that you would have to wait until you have Axes to start using him, which goes contrary to what you need on an aggro deck.

. CHANGELOG:
New effect:
Discard the HIGHEST cost card instead of the LOWEST. Also draws an additional card if the discarded card cost 6+.

Stat changes:
Attack from 2 to 0.
Cost from 2 to 1.

. EXPECTATIONS:
In deck building you have to always plan around not drawing your combo pieces, and as an aggro player, this is even more important because you need to get your game plan going before your opponent out-value you.
Therefore, the plan is to make Arena Bookie your card that will help you get consistent with your aggro plan. Is okay if you want to end the match with Decimates or Farron, but those cards means nothing if you cannot play your early units.
With Arena Bookie you can have a solid turn 1 or 2 play that will make sure draw your combo pieces before turn 4 and start playing into your win condition. You can always sack him as a blocker if you are getting into late game and don't need the draw anymore.
This card can also help Noxus to add more greedy cards to their aggro playstyle, since you can make sure you will draw the cards you want, when you want them.

. FLAVOUR:
Assuming this is Noxus Arena's best or only bookmaker, "Bookie" (Let's call him that) knows how to set matches to get the best outcome for him and his associates.
Therefore, Bookie knows who to put in and when to put them in the arena to get what he wants. He knows that if he throws Draven against a House Spider, no one will pay to see that. People want to see small fries fighting for their lives, before the star can come in and steal the show.

CAUGHT IN THE COLD
. WHY THIS CARD?
Caught in the cold is the ugly sister of the Frostbite family, not even Ashe decks wants it. It came with Sejuani's support cards and on paper should do what Sejuani does. The problem is that Sejuani's effect comes with Sejuani's body and is burst speed.
This card always had some potential, but being slow and costing 2 mana could brick several hands. Also, it requires a lot of commitment and pro-activity, which are two huge downsides in a game like LOR.

. CHANGELOG:
New effect:
The effect occurs on the NEXT ROUND START, instead of on the same turn that is played.

Stat changes:
Cost from 2 to 1.

. EXPECTATIONS:
The idea of this change is to add another layer of complexity to the match. Costing so little, but having the effect come on the next turn could create very interesting plays.
Your opponent have a good open attack next turn? You can finish your round by playing caught in the cold and de-valuing your opponent's open attack. Imagine, you play Caught in the Cold in the end of your turn 5, now your opponent needs to develop into the attack, you Sejuani his best unit, and now your opponent have no good attacks.
You can also use offensively, let's say your opponent attacked this turn and have a pretty good blocker, maybe he is playing a deck with good slow/development punishers. You play caught in the cold and suddenly you made it harder for your opponent to force you to develop into his responses.
You can also use Caught in the cold to force your opponent to spend more mana in one turn, maybe depleting his spell mana, and giving you mana advantage on the next turn.

. FLAVOUR:
Caught in the cold sound like something sudden or unexpected, yet is a slow spell in a sea of burst frostbite spells. With this changes, although still a slow spell it cannot be countered on the turn the effect occurs, because during the Round Start phase no one can play cards.
Can be seen as the enemy not paying attention to the signs of a snowstorm or the terrain and when combat is near, that opponent now is caught in the cold, paying for his inaction.
Caught in the cold would be the slowest spell in the game, yet you would need to play around it. You don't want to commit all your mana now, just so your opponent can sneak this card at the end of the turn and you will have to deal with the consequences later.

OVERGROWN SNAPVINE
. WHY THIS CARD?
I remember when this card was announced and not just me, but a lot of players were excited to build decks around this madness. Even meme decks using this card are bad, the concept is fun and exciting but the cost of the card makes it impossible to get the plan rolling before you lose the game.
And even if you manage to make your Snapvines big by buffing it, they can be blocked and do not have any good keywords to give those stats value, and this makes the card even more sad.

. CHANGELOG:
New effect:
The first half is the same, but now also GRANT +1|+0 to Overgrown Snapvines EVERYWHERE.

New keyword:
Fearsome

Stat changes:
Cost from 7 to 3.
Attack 5 to 1.

. EXPECTATIONS:
People want to build decks around Snapvine and I believe my changes will enable that. I wanted to give Snapvine a keyword that would allow it to close games, as well as a payout for the deck building cost.
By making Snapvine a 3 cost 1|3 it will begin the game as a very overpriced unit. But if you manage to nurture it, it can win you the game. It would be an engaging mechanic, similar to how Fiora or TF adds to the game, by making you have to deal with their win-con.
You as the Snapvine player, would have to make sure you can protect and spawn more Snapvines than your opponent can kill. You opponent would in other hand try to think of a way to kill all your Snapvines in one blow.
I don't even need to give you deck ideas, cause I think you are already thinking on how to make the most disgusting Snapvine possible.
(PZ to make burst Snapvines? Running Snapvines on your Fearsome/Mistwraith deck as a second win-con? Ditching TWE and getting a new color? Maybe Ionia for denying the opponent Ruination, or their Deny when you go for Atrocity?)

. FLAVOUR:
Snapvine just like all other plants, it must grow (is on their name) they actually overgrow.. They will keep growing and if you don't do something about it, they will most likely become unstoppable.
Is sad that something with grow on their name never had a scaling factor, but "Flower Child" and "Fae Bladetwirler" do.
Also, if you look at Snapvine artwork, it screams fearsome, specially if it grows to become the size of a Tank.

CITYBREAKER
. WHY THIS CARD?
Swain is a pretty popular champion, and a lot of players love to find different ways to build Swain decks. But none of them use one of the core supporting card. As a 4 cost 0|5 card Citybreaker have nothing to offer.
If by turn 4 you are not close to leveling Swain, 1 damage per turn is not what you need. If you are close to leveling Swain by Turn 4, you don't need Citybreaker, you are most likely winning without it.
Specially on an archetype with so many great reactive spells, playing this card will only set you behind. The worst part is that for a card with 5 health, you rarely want to block units with it.
Cause you need to stick this card into your board for several turns to make it worth the mana cost.

. CHANGELOG:
New keyword:
Tough

Stat changes:
Cost from 4 to 2.
Health from 5 to 2.

. EXPECTATIONS:
With 4 mana this card was getting into the game way too late to be relevant. My change aims to make this card a solid Turn 2 or Turn 3 play.
For a 2 mana card, if you manage to keep it alive until turn 5 and maybe get a valuable block before it dies, if did more than enough.
If your opponent is playing a slow deck or have no response for it, it can become an actual good pressure tool. Forcing a response for a 2 cost card is really good for a deck that struggles to protect Leviathan and Swain.
With Tough, Citybreaker can survive Avalanche and keep chipping away the opponent's Nexus. Because is so light in mana cost now, it can also be a budget Leviathan if you have a flipped Swain in your hand on turn 7.

. FLAVOUR:
Citybreaker should be a siege weapon, that are deployed in mass and their objective is to pressure the opponent to break act, while Swain retains his reactive position and prepare a response.
By making it an early unit, Citybreaker makes your opponent have to act while low on resources. And if they fail to act, Swain can level up way sooner than they expect.
Another interesting point is that Citybreakers are shown to be stronger in numbers and sure enough, for 6 mana you can get the same effect as Leviathan, if you manage to draw all 3.

26 Capital Corp (ADERU) is a new at-NAV SPAC with world-leading online gambling expertise - worth a bet

EDIT - one week after i posted this, Britain's most successful hedge fund manager Michael Platt has taken a 6.5% stake
tl;dr
At-NAV new SPAC with world-leading expertise in online gambling. Worth a bet on potential to be next DKNG on the hype train

+++++++
Hi all - have had a lot of great tips from this sub. Hopefully this pays some of you back. I have been watching and researching this since 23 December when it first filed S1, awaiting the units to be listed - they are available today trading as ADERU
Positions - 500 units @ 10.42 to start. Will be monitoring and building position below $15, especially if attention starts to build ahead of units and warrants splitting and shares coming available to Robinhood.
(My other SPAC positions are OPEN, IPO-E-F, PSTH, FUSE, PIPP, ACTC, CCIV and DMYD, 100 to 1000 shares each mostly around NAV and numerous warrants and options around these.)
As ever, this is not investment advice and do your own research
+++++++

26 Capital Acquisition Corp or ADER
is a 240m SPAC with usual terms - 10$ units, 1/2 warrants. Seeking a merger in "gaming and gaming technology, branded consumer, lodging and entertainment, and Internet commerce sectors".
I think this is highly worth a play on the online gambling hype if you can get in at near NAV, based entirely on the management which is unbeatable in its knowledge of the gambling industry

CEO Jason Ader
has held director level positions at Las Vegas Sands Corp. ($42bn one of biggest casino groups in world), IGT (£3.72bn multinational gambling firm specialised in software and slot machines) and Playtech (£1.4bn multinational gambling software firm)
Before starting his own fund in 2013 he was regularly ranked Wall Street's top analyst on the gambling and leisure sector
His fund, Spring Owl Capital, is a small activist fund focused on gambling and leisure. They are probably most famous for ousting the CEO of Viacom in 2016 and a crusade against Yahoo CEO Marissa Meyer in 2015.
Ader knows the gambling - and online gambling - industry inside out. He drove bWin to a £1.1bn takeover by gambling giant GVC (now Entain) in 2016, and has been driving similar change and demands for improvement at board level at Playtech
The fund mostly manages money for a select group of wealthy families, which could be a positive sign for the SPAC (although I don't know how much skin in the SPAC the fund has, if any)
Here is a video of Ader from November talking about how he's excited about SPACs. He talks about how he has been advising certain States about legalising sports betting and how to maximise value and liquidity by linking up with European companies in the space (Playtech e.g.??).
Ader is extremely bullish on US legalising online casino and more sports betting options, accelerated by need for revenue because of pandemic

Rafi Ashkenazi
One of the most highly respected names in the online gambling world, including COO and CEO positions at major online gambling firms such as Playtech and Stars Group (a world leader in online poker and casino). At Stars he led the $4.7bn takeover of Sky Betting to create the world's largest publicly listed online betting firm in 2018. Most recently he led the £10bn merger between Flutter (biggest gambling company in world by revenue, market cap £26bn), and Stars Group (Ader also involved). Also has connections into the booming Israel tech space which is interesting

Joseph Kaminkow
Special Advisor to the Chief Product Officer at Aristocrat, a leading gambling software provider and games publisher, previously Vice President of Game Design at Zynga Inc. This guy is a former video game / pinball designer who is credited with revolutionising the slots industry after moving into gambling software from video games in 1999. Regarded as a "legend" and "hall of famer" in this niche. At Zynga he designed so-called 'social casino games' which don't involve real-money gambling but are otherwise basically gambling apps (revenue from microtransactions etc). 130 patents on gambling/gaming design inventions

Greg Lyss
This is a very interesting but extremely low profile person. He was Bill Ackman a.k.a SPACman's right hand man at Gotham Capital. Ackman respected him so much that when Ackman set up a personal hedge fund to invest the Ackman family's money, he put Lyss in charge of it. To repeat - Bill Ackman thinks this guy is such a good investor and trustworthy that he put him in charge of investing his family's money. Don't know anything more about him, but I like this association with Ackman, which suggests to me some integrity around management of this SPAC, especially as the gambling world can be very murky.
The other member of the team is the CFO of SpringOwl with 20+ years' hedge fund experience and not notable (although clearly competent)

Thesis / potential targets
Based on the above experience and many public comments by Ader over the past year, I would be very surprised if ADER is not looking to merge with an online gambling technology provider / existing online betting website / social casino app / possibly a supporting technology provider
They are activist inventors, and specifically say in the IPO prospectus that they could look for businesses that can benefit from turnaround or are not being run well. I speculate that their deep knowledge of the European / global online gambling industry means they have a target in mind that they think would benefit from their expertise and US liberalisation of gambling legislation.

1) Ader believes the listing of UK-listed gambling companies in US is immediately big in terms of market cap because of the premium on online gambling stocks in US. He has pitched DraftKings to takeover Playtech and called on Playtech to spin off non-core business. This makes me wonder if he would spin off some element of Playtech to list in US to cash in on gambling hype.
This might be Finalto.com / TradeTech which is an online financial platform owned by Playtech. Playtech has been trying to sell this for 200 - 240m since August so it fits. This company provides liquidity and trading to brokerages and runs markets.com a trading site. I wouldn't be that excited although apparently the business has been booming during COVID and there could be a decent pop just on fintech hype.

2) This could be a 'picks and shovel' type data/B2B betting software play a la DMYD, or something like e.g. Israel based CRM software Optimove which works with some of biggest online gambling cos and has links to Ashkenazi. This would be interesting but probably not a huge pop

3) Possibly - given Ader's links to Sands - an online gambling tie-up with one of the big Vegas casinos who are desperate to get into the online betting space (see MGM's attempt to buy Entain for $8bn last week). Interestingly, Sands' owner Sheldon Adelson, previously a major opponent of online betting, has just died. Ader predicted a few months ago that Sands would be moving in this direction.
“There’s no stopping online gaming,” Ader said [before Adelson's death]. “(Las Vegas Sands’) initiatives to stop online gaming, at this stage, are largely historic. There hasn’t been a lot of spending recently to do that, especially post-pandemic.”
“I think the company will see the value created by DraftKings and FanDuel and Penn (National) Gaming and others. They’re not foolish,” Ader added. source

4) Ader is very confident that Macau will legalise online gambling in next year or two. Sands is big in Macau, the biggest gambling market in the world. A SaaS-type product positioned to capitalise on Asian gambling would be MASSIVE - at present however, China's attitude to gambling and local regulations mean this is unlikely

5) I also wonder if they might try to take legitimate one of the offshore bookmakers with big customer databases and brand recognition but which have been grey-area/illegal under US gaming legislation. For example, Five Dimes recently announced a settlement with the FBI to attempt to transition into newly legalised US markets. This might have the most hype potential

Potential upside
This is entirely a play on management experience and the meme factor / hype around online gambling in the US. I think if they pick a good target - which given their experience and connections seems likely - and get the right publicity and attention from retail investors looking for the next DKNG this could easily 3x and maybe 5-6x if on DKNG-type hype levels.
There is currently little spotlight on this and it is a good time to get in at NAV

Potential Downside

As per our guide above, if you don't have it on cable, then it has a dedicated streaming-only platform, CBS All Access, that will sort you out in time for the big game. Folks in the UK arguably have it best, though, as the Super Bowl is 100% FREE to watch on the BBC and its companion iPlayer streaming service. Super Bowl build-up wouldn't be the same without the Puppy Bowl, a pawsome pre-game tradition now in its 16th year - so we're on Puppy Bowl XVII, officially. It sees 70 adorable pups compete in a two-hour long event pitting Team Ruff vs Team Fluff. The event is co-hosted and the teams 'coached' by two of America's least likely BFFs, Snoop Dogg and Martha Stewart. A one-hour long pre-game show will recap the highlights of Puppy Bowls past from 1pm ET/10am PT, while the game itself 'kicks-off' at 2pm ET/11am PT. TV coverage is on Animal Planet, which if you don't have via cable, can be streamed using either the Discovery+ platform (from $4.99 a month, 7-day free trial) or an over-the-top cable replacement service like FuboTV (from $64.99 a month, 7-day free trial). The reason the Puppy Bowl has captured the nation's imagination is that in addition to being so darn cute, it also features adoptable dogs from shelters all over the country, so if you get tired of the usual talking heads pre-game coverage, be sure to tune in! Sadly, the Puppy Bowl doesn't seem to be available internationally, even in countries like the UK where Animal Planet is available. But anyone from the US currently abroad needn't worry as they can try our No. 1 rated VPN 100% risk-free for 30-days and tune in just like they would at home. super bowl 2021 live stream half time show the weeknd (Image credit: Michael Kovac/FilmMagic) Super Bowl 2021 Halftime Show: who's performing at Super Bowl LV? Following in the footsteps of a sensational performance by Shakira and J-Lo last year that was watched by some 104 million people (and received over 1,300 complaints), The Weeknd has been confirmed to headline the 2021 Super Bowl halftime how. It's expected to go down as the longest halftime show ever at 24 minutes, with Jay-Z and Roc Nation responsible for production of this year's entertainment. For more details, check out our full guide to the 2021 Super Bowl halftime show. Super Bowl 2021 odds and predictions The Kansas City Chiefs are currently installed as the heavy favorites to lift the Lombardi trophy for a second straight season. With arguably the league's most gifted QB in Patrick Mahomes under center, its best TE in Travis Kelce menacing opposing defences, and deadly skill players like Tyreek Hill able to break out for a big play at any time...it's easy to see why. The Bucs are the underdogs, having emerged from the NFC Wild Card picture with big wins over the Saints and Packers to get this far - and few would put another upset past them with GOAT Tom Brady under center. The combination of home field advantage and Brady being Brady somewhat mitigates Tampa's otherwise heavy underdog status, even if the 22,000 fans expected to attended is well below the normal 65,000+ capacity of Ray Jay. Still, while Tampa are a team brimming with the kind of confidence you get when you're led by TB12, most pundits are joining Vegas and the bookmakers in predicting a Chiefs win - though most have it down to be a close game that's likely to come down to the final possession.

My dad is making my life miserable [19M]

I’m new to Reddit and this community so i don’t know if this is the sort of post you all want to see but oh well. This is going to be a very long post so apologies.
So a bit of context.. my mum and dad divorced when I was about a year old and I lived with my mum and her boyfriend and then went to my dads every other weekend, sometimes every weekend. I had quite a tough childhood as my mums boyfriend/essentially my stepdad, basically used to bully me. Was rarely physical but emotionally damaging for me. For example I’d get sent to bed at 5 o clock as a “punishment” for doing nothing wrong, if I came back from my dads I wouldn’t be allowed to speak to my mum and would have to go straight to bed, had my school stuff thrown into the garden and left there overnight. He used to take advantage of my mum being out the house and bully me until I had to ring my dad in tears. I had a younger brother and younger sister and was treated very differently to them as they were his kids, which I believe is this reason he took a disliking towards me. Lots of different things. Either way it was a miserable experience for me and still affects me to this day. When I was 12 my mum was diagnosed with cancer which was terminal however I was never told it was terminal and was always lead to believe that she would survive it. As I was quite young I was naive and wasn’t really sure how cancer worked etc. About a year later when I was 13 she passed away, which was a huge shock to me as I was never told how bad it was whilst everyone else was able to prepare for it. I had to stay with my stepdad for the remainder of my school year which was awful as the bullying obviously got worse now my mum wasn’t around anymore. But once I finished my school year I went to live with my dad and had to move schools as he lived in another city about an hour away.
As I hated my life at home when I was living with my stepdad, I thought this would be a fresh start and I could start to enjoy my life, however, I was wrong. I settled into my new school very quickly, made a few friends but never really felt like I fitted in. They would all go out after school but I couldn’t because my dad was weird about it. This is the first sign that things were going to be tough with him but at the time I didn’t think anything of it. For the first 3 years of school I didn’t see my friends once out of school. I wasn’t allowed to play online with them on my PlayStation as my dad wouldn’t let me. It was at the end of my last school year when I was 16 when I decided I’ve had enough and told my dad I’m going out with my friends whether he liked it or not. He agreed to let me but I had to be back at 6:45 every time I went out (weird I know). He said this was because he cooked dinner at this time and I always had to eat with him. Whenever I came back from seeing my friends I would get interviewed my dad about it, asking me question after question about where I was, who I was with, what I was doing even though I had already told him this before I left. If he didn’t question me I’d get probing questions such as “were you really doing that for that long?” In a suspicious voice. This still happens to this day and i am now 19.
He controls every aspect of my life. I have to do everything with him, I can’t leave my house to go and see friends before about 2 o clock because I was made to eat lunch with him before I could go out. If I wanted to go out after school or college he would often say “only if you walk the dogs first” even though he has been at home doing nothing all day because that’s what he does, he doesn’t work and spends 90% of his life watching tv. Everything was on his terms and I didn’t have a say in anything I did. He decided for me that I’m going to college after I’d finished school and I didn’t even get a say in that. I didn’t want to do that because none of my friends went there and I preferred to do an apprenticeship. But no, it was his way or no way. I was being treated like a little kid and still am to this day. I’m 19 now and I still have to be in at 6:45 as we apparently have to eat together although I’m convinced it’s just an excuse for him controlling me and stopping me staying out late.
I got a girlfriend when I was 17, she’s been my girlfriend for over a year and he doesn’t know about her because of how controlling and weird he is especially about that sort of thing. I had a girlfriend before that briefly and I only told him about her because I had to travel far to see her. And he was very weird about it and almost had a go at me for getting a girlfriend. “Where did you meet her?” In an angry voice. “I want you to focus on college”. Constantly being judgemental about it and made me feel guilty about it. This put me off even wanting a girlfriend for a while until I met my current girlfriend who he still doesn’t know about because of his reaction last time. It bothers her a lot and I know you’ll all be thinking I’m a horrible person for that and tbh I agree because she doesn’t deserve that, but I just can’t bring myself to say it. It sounds pathetic but the fact that I know he’ll react badly combined with my really bad anxiety that I’ve developed over the last few years (mainly due to him), I can’t bring myself to do it. I keep my entire life away from home private from him. If I buy new clothes I don’t tell him because he’s had a go at me for that in the past and made me feel guilty about that before because apparently he should be doing that. And then I get called “sneaky” and made to feel like I’m the weird one when I literally can’t even buy myself some new clothes without telling him exactly what I’m going to buy or he’ll get angry at me. If I go out with a bag I’ll get questioned on what’s in the bag as if I’m some sort of drug dealer, to the point where he was stood shouting at me saying “what’s in the bag” over and over again. To the point where I have to leave my bag outside and get it when he goes upstairs etc just to avoid being questioned. Again this still happens now. He even once quizzed me about why I’d took my bag to work which we literally have to do in case there’s things we have to take home. If I go out with friends or with my girlfriend (he thinks I’m meeting friends as obviously he doesn’t know about her) and I go somewhere different to where I usually go I’ll get a huge lecture about him having to know “exactly where I am at all times”.
I thought all of this would stop when I reached 18 as that is when I became an adult but if anything it got worse. Until recently I would come home from school or college and find the entire contents of my bedroom scattered across my floor with him shouting at me saying my bedroom is “an absolute mess” even though it rarely ever was. This would happen at least once a week and has only stopped recently because we are in lockdown due to covid. I got a part time job last year at a bookmakers as his friend is the manager there and basically got me the job. However all he has done since I got it is make digs at me about it, saying “you don’t want to work there all your life” and constantly criticise it even though it was him who pushed me to get the job. I have a season ticket at the football (soccer for any Americans here, I’m English) and if I had to miss the odd game because of work which I could do nothing about, he’d go absolutely crazy at me saying he’ll cancel my season ticket, make nasty comments about my job etc. For my birthday we would go and choose shoes for example, and if I liked a pair he would look disgusted and say “are you sure..?” And then would pick some other ones out and say “these are nice you’re having these” and not even give me a choice. So I’ve realised he’s very controlling; I think he hates the fact I’m growing up and that’s why he tries to control me. But that’s not all.
He’s also got more and more toxic towards me as I’ve grown up. I do a lot of chores around the house, more than anyone I know. Which on its own is understandable as it’s just me and him, he doesn’t have a wife or partner. So if I’m asked to do things I will always do them without any complaints. However I’ve spoke to my friends and girlfriend about it and they all can’t believe how much he makes me do. All of the horrible jobs such as clearing dog poo out of the garden are assigned to me as he does all the nicer ones. I do that, I mow the grass at the front and back every single time, he never does it. I clean the bathroom all the time, I vacuum, I offer to help cook every single night, I clean the kitchen after he’s cooked and more. This might not seem like a lot but when I have had a 11 hour shift for example at work I will come home and he’ll make me do something that he would usually do just because he can’t be bothered such as take the dogs a walk. Which I really don’t want to do after a long shift. I wouldn’t mind if he’d been busy but he’ll have done absolutely nothing all day. It gets to the point where he’s using me to do jobs whilst he does very little. And the worst part is that he’s started these random outbursts on me for no reason. He’ll have nothing to be angry with me about so he’ll just use a standard line.. “YOU DO NOTHING AROUND THE HOUSE. I DO EVERYTHING” which actually just blows my mind because I do way more than he does. And I will tell him that I do loads around the house and he’ll go “but you could have just done .......” and pick something random as if I’m supposed to have read his mind and known he wanted me to do it. I’ll say why didn’t you tell me to do it then and he’ll shout “I SHOULDN’T HAVE TO ASK”. This argument has started to happen about once week. I have suffered from depression over the last year or two, especially a few months ago when we first got quarantined and weren’t allowed out the house. And I genuinely believe this is largely down to him and how he treats me. There was one day in particular that I remember where he was having a go at me about everything for no reason when I already felt depressed, to the point where I had a massive breakdown in front of him. I thought this may change how he acts with me but a few weeks later and he goes back to his normal self. I can’t even get changed in the morning without him smashing the dishes around and shouting at me for doing “nothing around the house” just because he’s decided to do the dishes when he knows I haven’t even been downstairs yet. I think he does it deliberately to give him a reason to shout at me. Although I do feel depressed sometimes, it comes and goes, I’ll feel very depressed for a few weeks and then feel okay for a few weeks, it’s my anxiety that remains really bad. I was always a shy person but not anxious to this extent. When I wake up I feel anxious to even go downstairs in case he starts on me. If I come home from being out I will feel anxious as soon as I leave to come home. I find myself literally shaking because of my anxiety around him. He makes me feel so uneasy. I can’t have a normal conversation with him about anything, can’t have a joke with him in case he reacts badly. He’s in what seems like a constant bad mood with me, every conversation we have has to be formal. I’m not allowed to swear or even say words such as “crap”, whilst he swears a lot. The only time I don’t feel anxious is when I’m with my girlfriend or my friends and even then I worry that he’ll call me and ask what I’m doing. I even can’t wait to go to work some days even though it is really boring, because I want to get out of the house to relieve my anxiety. Now we’re in lockdown it’s even worse as I can only leave the house once to go for a walk, and I can only be out about an hour or he’ll start questioning me and saying I’m being sneaky. He doesn’t respect my privacy at all, I don’t feel like I have any time to myself and it’s really starting to impact on my mental health. I can’t play on my PlayStation with my friends until he’s gone to sleep because he shouts me to go downstairs every 10 minutes to “help” with something and then I won’t even have to do anything and will just stand there. Or I’ll have to go and look at a new car he wants even though he knows I’m not interested. He doesn’t give me any time to myself at all and at 19 that really pisses me off. He treats me like a kid and I’ve been an adult for over a year. I constantly feel like I’m treading on eggshells around him, he’s so passive aggressive and childish it’s actually embarrassing. I find him pathetic if I’m being honest.
He’s also very narcissistic I’ve noticed. He has to have “the best” everything. Even if he’s struggling for money he’ll choose to buy a new car rather than focus on saving money. I have had barely any money spent on me since I’ve lived with him at all, yet he’s spend thousands and thousands on himself. Now I’m earning money he regularly asks to borrow money of up to £5000 so that he can pay his credit cards off because he’s got himself into a mess financially because he spends so much money on silly things such as a £700 coffee machine. Lol. Oh yeah, and probably the worst thing of all, his dad left me £20,000 for me when he died in his will, for my dad to give me to me for him when I turned 18, for a new car or University fees etc. However, my dad spent every single penny of it on new cars and things for him and acts like it’s not a big deal, and always says “you’ll get it eventually” even though I know I’ll never see it. Which I believe I could take him to court over but I never would unless our relationship broke down massively or I needed the money.
Sorry for the really long post, if anyone has actually made it this far then I appreciate it a lot. I just don’t know what to do. I’ve even considered therapy due to my mental health. I don’t feel like I can speak to him properly about anything, he’s never acted like a father to me but more of a stranger who just happens to live with me. So it’s not like I can just talk to him about this because I really don’t feel like I can. I’ve never had a personal conversation with him in my life. I bottle up all of my feelings and the only person I can speak to on that level is my girlfriend. I really don’t know what to do because I am sick of living here and would move out if I had enough money. I don’t have a family at all really so staying with them wouldn’t be an option.
I really just feel like I need some proper advice on what to do because my mental health is suffering a lot because of him.
Thanks for taking the time to read this, would appreciate constructive and helpful feedback rather than judgemental feedback👍

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Matthew Davey — Chief Executive Officer and Director
Mr. Davey has over 25 years of experience within the digital media, sports, entertainment, leisure and gaming ecosystems, as well as experience in the public sector. He is an experienced public company executive officer and board member. He has served in executive management positions across the gaming technology arena. Over the course of Mr. Davey’s career, he oversaw more than ten mergers and acquisitions and over $1.2 billion in debt and equity capital raised to support the companies he has led.
Most recently, Mr. Davey was Chief Executive Officer of SG Digital, the Digital Division of Scientific Games Corp. (“Scientific Games”) (Nasdaq: SGMS). SG Digital was established following the purchase by Scientific Games of NYX Gaming Group Limited (“NYX”) (formerly TSXV: NYX), where Mr. Davey served as Chief Executive Officer and Director. The NYX acquisition provided Scientific Games with a vehicle to significantly accelerate the scale and breadth of its existing digital gaming business, including the strategic expansion into sports betting. In his capacity as Chief Executive Officer of NYX, Mr. Davey developed and implemented a corporate strategy that generated strong revenue growth. Mr. Davey shaped company strategy to focus on digital gaming supplier platforms and content that provided various gaming operators with the underlying gaming and sports betting systems for their online gaming business. In 2014, Mr. Davey oversaw the initial public offering of NYX, and his experience in the digital media, sports, entertainment, leisure and gaming industries helped NYX recognize momentum as a public company. After the public offering, from 2014 to 2018, Mr. Davey oversaw seven acquisitions which helped establish NYX as one of the fastest growing global B2B real-money digital gaming and sports betting platforms. These acquisitions included:
• OpenBet: In 2016, NYX completed the $385 million acquisition of OpenBet. This was one of the more complex and transformative acquisitions that Mr. Davey oversaw at NYX. Through securing co-investments from William Hill (LSE: WMH), Sky Betting & Gaming and The Stars Group (formerly Nasdaq: TSG, TSX: TSGI), Mr. Davey was able to get the acquisition from Vitruvian Partners completed successfully, winning the deal against much larger and well capitalized competitors. By combining two established and proven B2B betting and gaming suppliers, NYX was well positioned to provide customers with exciting player-driven solutions across all major product verticals and distribution channels. This allowed NYX to become the leading B2B omni-channel sportsbook platform in the market and the supplier to over 300 gaming operators globally with an extensive library of desktop and mobile game titles, including more than 700 on NYX platforms and more than 2,000 on the OpenBet platform.
• Cryptologic/Chartwell: In 2015, NYX completed the $119 million acquisition of Cryptologic and Chartwell. The acquisition provided NYX with more than 400 titles of additional leading gaming content, a broader customer base, and direct exposure to PokerStars and Intercasino, part of the Gamesys Group (LSE: GYS) — two of the world’s largest online casino offerings.
• OnGame: In 2014, NYX completed the distressed acquisition of OnGame, a premier poker content, platform and service provider. This acquisition provided NYX with one of the best poker products in the industry, access to several regulated jurisdictions, and a valuable talent pool that was instrumental in the growth of NYX. The addition of OnGame further established a path for NYX to continue its growth in both European and U.S. markets.
These acquisitions, together with meaningful organic growth, increased NYX’s revenue from $24 million in 2014 to $184 million annualized in 2017. During that time, Mr. Davey helped build NYX to have over 200 customers in the global gaming industry and a team of 1,000 employees. Mr. Davey’s success at NYX ultimately led to its sale to Scientific Games for $631 million in 2018.
Mr. Davey joined Next Gen Gaming, the predecessor to NYX, in 2000 as the Vice President of Technology, was appointed as Executive Director in 2003 and named Chief Executive Officer in 2005. Prior to that, he was the Senior Consultant for Access Systems, a company that specializes in the provision of back-end software for licensed online casinos. Prior to joining Access, Mr. Davey worked for the Northern Territory Government specializing in matters pertaining to the internet and e-commerce along with roles in the Department of Racing and Gaming. Mr. Davey received a Bachelor of Electrical & Electronic Engineering from Northern Territory University, Australia (also known as Charles Darwin University).
Robin Chhabra — President
Mr. Chhabra has been at the forefront of corporate acquisition activity within the digital gaming landscape for over a decade. His prior experience includes leading corporate strategy, M&A, and business development at two of the global leaders in the digital gaming industry, The Stars Group (“TSG”) and William Hill, and a leading supplier, Inspired Gaming Group (Nasdaq: INSE). Mr. Chhabra served on the Group Executive Committees of each of these companies. From 2017 to May 2020, Mr. Chhabra served as Chief Corporate Development Officer at TSG and, from 2019 to August 2020, he also served as the Chief Executive Officer of Fox Bet, a leading U.S. online gaming business which is the product of a landmark partnership between TSG and FOX Sports, a transaction which he led. During that period, Mr. Chhabra led several transactions which transformed TSG into the largest publicly listed online gambling operator in the world by both revenue and market capitalization and one of the most diversified from a product and geographic perspective with revenues of over $2.5 billion. Mr. Chhabra’s M&A experience is extensive and covers multiple global geographies across the digital gaming value chain and includes the following:
• TSG/Flutter Entertainment Merger: In 2019, Mr. Chhabra led the TSG M&A team that was responsible for TSG’s $12.2 billion merger with Flutter Entertainment (LSE: FLTR). The merger between TSG and Flutter Entertainment is the largest transaction in the digital gaming industry to date. The combination created the largest publicly listed online gaming company with approximately 13 million active customers and leading product offerings, which include sports betting, online casino, fantasy sports and poker. The combined entity includes some of the world’s most iconic digital gaming brands such as Fanduel, Fox Bet, Sky Bet, PaddyPower, Betfair, PokerStars and SportsBet. TSG/Flutter Entertainment is one of the most geographically diverse digital gaming and media companies with leading positions in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Ireland, Italy, Spain, Germany and Georgia.
• TSG/Sky Betting and Gaming (“SBG”): In 2018, Mr. Chhabra led the acquisition of SBG from CVC Capital Partners and Sky plc, Europe’s largest media company, in a transaction valued at $4.7 billion. At the time of the acquisition SBG was the largest mobile gambling operator in the United Kingdom and one of the fastest growing of the major operators having doubled its online market share in three years. The acquisition of SBG provided TSG with (a) greater revenue diversification, significantly enhanced expertise and exposure to sports betting just ahead of the judicial overturn of The Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992 (PASPA) by the U.S. Supreme Court, (b) a leading position within the United Kingdom, the world’s largest regulated online gaming market, (c) improved products and technology as a result of the addition of SBG’s innovative casino and sports book offerings and a portfolio of popular mobile apps, and (d) expertise in deeply integrating sports betting with leading sports media companies, positioning TSG to create more engaging content, deliver faster growth and decrease customer acquisition costs.
• William Hill (LSE: WMH): At William Hill, from 2010 to 2017, Mr. Chhabra served as Group Director of Strategy and Corporate Development where he led several transactions which contributed to William Hill’s transformation from a land-based gambling operator in the United Kingdom to a leading online-led international business. Mr. Chhabra led William Hill’s entry into the U.S. sports betting and online lottery markets with the acquisition of four businesses, including the simultaneous acquisitions of three U.S. sportsbooks, Cal Neva, American Wagering and Brandywine Bookmaking, in 2011 for an aggregate purchase price of $55 million. These businesses ultimately led William Hill to achieve a leading position in the U.S. sports betting market with a market share of 24% in 2019. Additionally, Mr. Chhabra played a key role in structuring William Hill’s successful joint venture with PlayTech Plc (LSE: PTEC) in 2008. The combined entity created one of the largest online gambling businesses in Europe at the time of its formation and led to William Hill’s buyout of Playtech’s interest for $637 million in 2013. Prior to the transaction, William Hill had struggled in its attempt to establish a strong online gaming platform and a meaningful presence outside the United Kingdom.
Mr. Chhabra has also successfully completed four transactions worth over $1.2 billion in Australia, the world’s second largest regulated online gambling market, and various partnerships in Asia. Additionally, he completed several technology and media related transactions, including William Hill’s investment in NYX, where he worked with Mr. Davey on NYX’s transformational acquisition of OpenBet.
Prior to working in the gaming sector, Mr. Chhabra was an equities analyst and a management consultant. Mr. Chhabra received a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
Eric Matejevich — Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Matejevich is a seasoned gaming executive with extensive experience in both the online gaming and traditional casino industries. From February to August 2019, he served as Trustee and Interim-Chief Executive Officer of Ocean Casino Resort (“Ocean”) (formerly Revel Casino, which had a construction cost of $2.4 billion) in Atlantic City, where he successfully led the management team through an ownership change and operational turnaround effort. Over the course of seven months, Mr. Matejevich managed to reduce the property’s weekly cash burn of $1.5 million to an annualized cash flow run rate in excess of $20 million.
Prior to Ocean, from 2016 to 2018, Mr. Matejevich served as the Chief Financial Officer of NYX. At NYX, he focused his efforts on integrating the company’s many acquisitions and multiple debt refinancings to simplify its capital structure and provided liquidity for growth initiatives. Additionally, Mr. Matejevich was instrumental to the executive team that sold NYX to Scientific Games for $631 million.
Prior to NYX, from 2004 to 2014, Mr. Matejevich was the Chief Financial Officer of Resorts International Holdings and later, from 2011, also the Chief Operating Officer of the Atlantic Club Casino, a property under the Resorts International Holdings umbrella — a Colony Capital (NYSE: CLNY) entity. As Chief Financial Officer, he provided managerial oversight for all finance functions for a six-property casino company with annual gaming revenue exceeding $1.3 billion, 10,000 gaming positions, 7,000 hotel rooms and over 11,000 staff members during his tenure.

Be sure to read through the terms of the offer to make sure you will be eligible - you don't want to lose access to it over a silly mistake.

The top ten sites we can personally recommend and in no particular order are:
BetSafe
BetFred
Coral
BetFair
Bodog
Guts
SportsBet.io
Fun88
BetVictor
Unibet

You can actually make quite a lot of easy money via a one-off sweep of free bets from welcome offers. However you need to be careful because the bookmakers definitely do not want to give away free money easily. Some things that are worth looking out for: Time limits on unlocked free bets. Minimum betting odds to unlock free bets and they will usually only count your very first bet towards any offer. I recommend sketching out a strategy and targeting a group of 5-10, maybe over a weekend, in order to maximize the amount of free cash you can get.

In order to unlock the free bets, you might want to sign up for two welcome offers and find a game that has very similar odds. E.g. 1.9x returned on either team to win is very common. Place a "qualifying bet" at each one and you'll make most of your initial money back while you get free bets into your gambling account.

The Best Sports Betting Odds - Tips for Choosing the Right Bookmaker

Sports betting is the act of placing a wager on your favorite team's performance and predicting the result in sports events. Most bettors will place their bets in the home-town league before the game, then in the away games. The normal frequency of sports wagers ranges from once per year to several times per year. Sports betting can be based on numerous factors including current player injuries, general team scores, and weather conditions.
The most popular methods of sports betting are through online bookmakers and through sportsbooks. With an online bookmaker, all you need to do is visit their website, sign up, and place your bets. They will provide you with the odds and the entire information you need to place your bets. On the other hand, through sportsbooks, you will be provided with a computerized console that will allow you to make your correct prediction of the result of the game you are betting on.
The most important thing when it comes to sports betting is to bet sensibly. Never put all of your eggs in one basket. If you are going to bet, you may as well bet for the whole game. Betting small amounts can help you learn the ins and outs of sports betting and can build your confidence as you continue to increase your wager amount.
When it comes to sports betting, the key is not on who has the biggest advantage, but rather who has the best method. There are various systems available on the internet today that teach people how to win at sports betting. Some of these systems include manuals on common betting systems, how to use spreadsheets, and how to pick winning sports. You can easily find a manual that will help you predict the winner of a sporting event.
Once you have mastered the art of picking winning sports betting odds, you will need to know what bookmakers will offer you odds on the games you wish to bet on. Odds are usually presented in two formats, point spreads, or money lines. Most bookmakers use point spreads, while some will use money lines. Although they sound similar, both types of odds will tell you what side of the sports betting universe you are looking at. For example, if you look at a point spread, you would be looking at whether or not an athlete with an average statistics level is favored by the bookmaker.
When you start placing bets on sporting events, you may wish to consider making use of an online bookmaker. Online bookmakers usually offer much better odds than their traditional counterparts. Their goal is to let you take advantage of their expertise in researching and offering odds that are far superior to other bookmakers. Earn £45 from FREE trial cancel anytime! (Matched Betting - Profit Accumulator)

Matched Betting is a process which allows you earn money from the free bets and deals offered by online bookmakers. Instead of relying on luck, you place a bet on both sides so that no matter the outcome you always win! Profit Accumulator’s Oddsmatching software will show you which bets to place and for how much, ensuring you make the maximum profit! If you would like to learn more about Matched Betting and how it works you will find everything you need in this guide.
How Does it Work (is it Easy)?
Matched Betting works by placing both back and lay bets, this technique allows the user to turn free bet credits into cash – all from the comfort of your living room! To entice new customer in many of the online bookmakers give away ‘free bets’ as part of a welcome offer, to encourage users to sign up to their site. In addition to this there are also free bet deals offered to existing customers. With traditional betting, winning is down to chance as there is no guarantee that your bets will win.
With matched betting, you eliminate the risk element of a bet on a particular outcome (back bet) by placing an equivalent bet on the opposite outcome (lay bet), so that you win no matter what the result. This betting technique allows you to make a profit on free bets. Typically, your profit will be approximately 80% of the free bet amount, so a £50 free bet turns into around £40 profit. It sounds complicated, but the tools we have for you will make it simple. The Oddsmatcher automatically finds, sorts and ranks the best odds for you, and the built-in calculator works out how much you’ll need to bet in order to make the optimal profit. We can also help you find and take advantage of the best bookmaker welcome offers and daily betting deals.

A week in the life of your favorite firearm dealer 8/10/2020 PLUS ADDED PANDEMIC GUN SHOW COVERAGE!

Monday 8/10/2020 to Thursday 8/13/2020
I won't do the play by play. It's more fun to just amalgamate the highlight reel of the week.
I get call after call from people looking for 380 and 9mm ammo. One notable dialogue at 8PM
1: You have any 380 ammo?
Me: Yes, I have 7 boxes yet
1: How much?
Me: 20 to a box, 50 each
1: Great we can come pick it up now!
Me: It's 8PM and I've already left for the day. Come in tomorrow
1: But we need it now.
Me: I'm not heading back to work to sell a box of ammo.
1: Oh come on! I called you! You should be able to help me!
Me: I am, during normal business hours. But if you really want 2 boxes - $100 bill and I'll head back in.
1: ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS? YOU JUST TOLD ME IT WAS TWENTY!
Me: Twenty to a box, 50 bucks each box times two boxes
1: That's highway robbery! That's price gouging!
Me: Go look online. Nobody has any 380 ammo. And if they do it is $1 or $2 per round.
1: That's ridiculous! You're not the only guy in town that has 380 ammo!
(Editors note: She calls back the next day asking for 380 ammo. Apparently I am the only guy in town that has 380 ammo. I tell her there's a new policy. No ammo sales to people who have not bought firearms.)
One of my surgeon customers calls me telling me his lead nurse who hates guns wants to buy a gun. I tell them to come on down. Her whole family and the doc come in and I have this dialogue.
1: Can you suggest a gun for someone who hates guns?
Me: That's like a vegan walking into a steakhouse and saying "whats a good steak for a vegan?" - there's no real good way to do it and everything I can suggest you is sold out and then some.
1: Well what do you have here?
Me: That's a Glock 17, here take a look.
(Unload and show clear, hand her a Glock 17)
1: OH MY GOD THIS IS SO HEAVY!
Me: That's one of the lightest full size firearms ever made.
1: Do you have something with a safety? I love safeties. The more the better. If you have a gun with 150 safetys, that's something I would be interested in.
(I glare at the doc)
Me: I've only got three or four different model pistols left in stock. Here try out this springfield XD-S.....
1: I don't like this thing in the grip here the bump....
Me: You mean the grip safety?
1: yes
1: What happened to "I love safties the more the better"
(Doc nearly inhales his surgical mask from laughing)
She hates guns and wants to go rent a bunch of guns before buying any guns but I explain the problem is you can go rent something, fall in love with it and the dealer can't get one for a year. Case in point: Glock 19's, Sig 365's and Springfield Hellcats. She believes she is not ready to buy a gun until she rents one. I tell her go to a range and go rent one and find out what she likes.
She has just taken a "safety course" offered by the local girl and a gun chapter. The local girl and a gun chapter is run by a middle aged woman who has NRA instructor creds that is the WORST FIREARM INSTRUCTOR I HAVE EVER MET IN MY LIFE with the possible exception of James Yaeger. The last time I was at one of her events she was using the "mugger in a hoodie" paper targets and she instructed all the women to shoot him in the balls during one course of fire.
Now, I wasn't wearing my Caltech shirt that day but the fast math and trig is as follows.
Person shooting at a target 10 feet from the bench at a downward angle with a backstop of dirt 50 feet behind the bench...
I was trying to fix someone's gun before I could do anything. I am concentrated on fixing this pistol and the first volley of gunfire breaks my concentration. I then hear the sound of dozens of 9mm projectiles hitting the concrete and skipping off the property. I drop the pistol and shout at the top of my lungs a cease fire and evetyone looks at me funny
Me: KAREN! WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING?
1: Oh they're just girls, let them have their fun!
Me: ALL THE BULLETS ARE LEAVING THE PROPERTY!
1: What? No! How?
(I point at all the ricochet gouges on the concrete of the gun club)
1: Ohhhhhh
This woman is barely qualified to run a dairy queen much less instruct neophyte gun owners. Holy fucking shit. Why are people going to her? She's open, and she's a woman that has credentials that "can teach".
Yeah.
One day I head to lunch at the local pizza joint for lunch with Megan. Eddie makes a nice pizza and I sit down and have a pie. We rap about business as I eat my antipasato and wait for my freshly prepared clam pie to cool down a bit. It's not on the menu but he makes it special for us.
Me: hey eddie how's business?
ed: It's steady, lots of takeout.
Me: Its a tough economy I'd take it!
ed: Hey now!
Me: You doing okay?
ed: yeah I found that derringer I wanted at the last gun show!
Me: Oh really?
ed: Yeah! Someone ceracoted it tiffany blue and magenta
Me: Whoa whoa whoa! Please! I'm trying to eat here! Disgusting!
(Megan is drinking water and nearly does a spit take)
This is the world we're living in now.
Speaking of the new world... I wind up working a deal with a friend and we split 100k pcs of once fired lake city 5.56 brass. A local military contractor was doing some testing and they had a fucking ton of it and this is what was left. We got it for the cost of manpower to scrape it up and load it, clean it, tumble it and sort it and deprime and resize it.
My friend has two kids that are doing online learning with school, so he made them a deal. He cut the kiddos a deal to help him clean and resize and deprime the brass as labor.
We're into this stuff CHEAP. So we can sell it cheap or whatever the fuck we want in this market. I tell Ray I've got the perfect ad. We get some projectiles, some powder and primers and we run an ad. "5.56 ammo! $275/thousand! Some assembly required!" and Ray laughs his ass off.
The we got it was it was loaded into some wooden ammo crates that were left over at the contractors facility. They're heavy, not cost effective to ship and came with 5000 pcs of brass each. Ray gets an idea. He has discovered that if we portion it out and throw out or sell the wooden crates, we save a ton of money on shipping.
I wonder where he got this idea from. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nozIkRy0v-M
The kiddos load all the brass into USPS flat rate boxes in no time flat and we've got ourselves loaded ready to roll product that can ship immediately. His kids did the legwork in the loading on account of my bad back and I'm tasked with lining up buyers. No problem. I start working the local gun boards, my customers, myspace, etc. You know the usual spots.
This is where the wheels come off the wagon. I get a guy who comes right out the gate asking for 9k and then he blurts out "How much do you have, I'm interested in all of it"
Little hint for the readers. Anyone that says they're interested in everything you have are interested in nothing you have. They're blowing smoke 99% of the time and the 1% of the time that someone does buy everything you have, you're making a killing off them or they're making a killing off you. You know the old saying in poker - if you sit down at the table and you can't find the sucker in 5 minutes, you're the sucker? It's like that.
Anyhow, my ad reads as follows: $125/thousand 5.56 Brass Lake City cleaned, sorted, resized, trimmed and polished - DILLON 1050 READY!
The guy calling me wanting 9k then asked how much I had left - he lines up 9 of his friends and they want to take ALL of it and divvy it up. Pick up today or when the guys can get off of work and come get it, they're working back asswards logistics as to who's truck is going to haul all of it, who's loading it and unloading and they plan to show up at 630 tonight after work to come get it.
At 445 I get a message - hey can you send me a picture again one of my friends wants to check something and I send it over.
And that's when the entire deal falls apart because this butthead read 5.56 brass lake city NATO headstamp $125/thousand and thought he was getting loaded 5.56 NATO spec ammo for 12.5 cents a round in 2020, told all his friends about it and shot his mouth off like a damn fool. Now he has to explain to every single one of his friends that no you're not getting 10,000 rds of 5.56 NATO ammo for $1250. Wasting my fucking time. That was my Thursday. All these people begging for ammo are driving me nuts. Yes, I have 250,000 rds of ammo. No I am not going to bend over backwards and sell it to you cheap just to be a nice person/earn your business/because your sister gave me a handjob in high school. God damn.
Lady calls me looking for 380 ammo. She needs some for her CCW class that Karen is teaching and I tell her I have some left. She comes in and I tell her it's $50 a box. She leaves without buying anything.
There's other miscellany but you get the gist of it.
NOW here's the meat and potatoes you've wanted! The tale of the gun show!
Friday 8/14/2020
I take inventory. I'm down to about 500 guns in stock and I pack as much as I can and get it ready for the show. I've got some Sigs left, a handful of Glock and a mishmash of everything else. I head to bed early knowing full well the next show will be a total shitshow. I have not done a show in a big city for nearly six months. This will be epic or epic fail.
Saturday 8/15/2020
I pull chocks at 430AM, hit the flying J for diesel and pull into the local grocery store for a sandwich at 7AM right around the corner from the gun show. They fuck up my sandwich. Serves me right for buying morning of. Fuck me to tears. I start loading into the show and the entire front of the building is set up with crowd control barriers and it takes me an extra 40 minutes to thread the needle of my hand truck and loadout. I get the table setup as fast as I can and by 9AM the doors are open and we are off to the races. I will do hour blocks instead of my previous play by play for simplicity.
9AM: Right out the gate I have people asking me for Sig 365's. I have a used one with three mags and a holster I have tagged at $650. The guy asks me if I can do any better. I ask him if he's feeling lucky. I run the 4473 bet with him.
He fills out the form straight on the first shot, no corrections - and he gives me $650, he gets $50 back with his ID.
If there's a correction to be made, I keep half a yard. He says its a bet. He loses.
As I write that up at $650, I have another guy snag a regular 365 for $700. Both their background checks clear quickly.
The morning is not off to a bad start, I think to myself. I'm about to be proven wrong massively.
One of my old friends from high school asked me to liquidate some of his collection and I told him that I would selectively cherry pick some stuff and haul it to the show since I didn't want to commit large amounts of table space for other people's guns. He's got a super clean Century M70 underfolder. It's clean even by century standards but I don't want to buy that gun.
I have it out on the table and an old romanian guy starts checking it out.
1: What country is this from?
FC: I'm not a big AK guy, it's a century so I'm guessing maybe yugoslavia or maybe romania - I don't think that its a bulgarian one, but you're welcome to take a look
1: Does it say cugir?
FC: It does not
1: How do you know it does not say cugir?
FC: I can see the side of it it does not say that
1: Where does it not say?
FC: If you look at the side of the receiver, Century has shitty electropencil that is parkerized over that you can barely read
1: Do you have some oil I can put on there to rub on it so I can read it?
FC: Look, I'll read it. What do you want to know?
1: Does it say cugir?
FC: it does not.
1: What does it say?
FC: Century M70 AB2 7.62 x 39 Georgia Vermont
1: it does not say cugir? I am romanian if it says cugir is romanian
FC: It does not say that
1: Come on then make me a deal!
(1 taps the price tag marked at $850)
FC: It's the first 20 minutes of the show, I'm not making anything on the deal it's a favor for a friend of mine. I think that gun sells down here for top dollar.
1: I give you 600 cash
FC: Come see me at the end of the show maybe I'll be amenable to discounting but not this early
1: You know problem with topcover right?
(FC looks at topcover, it's slightly off from the hole and detent. Why? IT'S A CENTURY! WHAT DID YOU FUCKING EXPECT?!?! The care and attention to detail that only Jim Fuller from Rifle Dynamics or maybe a Bulgarian Arsenal offers? Fuck you.)
FC: This gun is gonna sell this weekend as is where is, even if you think it's not right.
1: Come on make me deal!
FC: I don't negotiate with terrorists or people spending under $10k. This ain't over $10k.
1: I have cash!
FC: Got $850? We'll write it up right now.
(1 walks away and comes back 3 minutes later)
1, while holding a wad of cash: Come on make me a deal!
FC: What's your offer?
1: I will go $700
FC: Come see me at the end of the show on Sunday and I'll see what I can do.
(1 gets yelled at by the county exhibition authority for not wearing a face mask correctly and he adamantly refuses to adjust his mask and starts a full blown screaming match with the poor county employee who VERY politely asked him to wear his face mask properly. As he is engaged in this animated debate, two individuals who I will call 2 and 3 show up. 2 and 3 want the underfolder AK. 2 and 3 are what we would call hip hop/droopy jean enthusiasts, their dialogue is presented word for word without adjustment. They were dropping the hard r, not me so please don't call me names for reporting the truth.)
2: ohhhhh snapppp this is what I came here lookin for!
3: damn nigga thats a straight up choppa right there you should buy that
1: HEY I WAS HERE FIRST I AM MAKING DEAL! BACK OFF!
FC: No, you walked away - these two gentlemen are here and now they're interested in that gun and I'm giving them my time.
1: BUT I WAS HERE FIRST HOLDING CASH!
2: back off nigga I'm here to check out stuff motherfucker i'm gonna mess you up
3: yeah man back the fuck off before my nigga messes you up god damn shieeeeeeit
1: I AM HERE! HOLDING CASH! YOU GOING TO DO BUSINESS WITH ME?
FC: You walked away. This is what happens when you walk away. It's their turn......
1: BUT I AM HERE WE ARE MAKING DEAL
(FC does an ACTUAL facepalm and presses his forehead and feels a headache beginning. A deep sigh)
FC: You two.....you're killing me here.
1: I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF MAKING DEAL AND YOU DON'T WANT TO DEAL!
FC: You want to see deal? I'll show you deal!
(FC grabs AK from the hip hop enthusiasts and looks right at them while holding an order pad in right hand and rifle in other)
FC: You got $750 cash?
2: nigga I got $750 cash right here (pulls out wad of 100's)
3: oh shit that guy gonna get fuckin SWOOPED
FC: You want me to write this up right now? $750 cash. And I'll throw in 4 mags (I pull out 4 mags loaded with x39 brown bear)
2: I GET THE MAGS AND THE AMMO FOR THAT PRICE? FUCK NIGGA YOU GOT A DEAL! (he counts out $800 in c-notes and drops his ID on the table)
FC: You got yourself a rifle.
(I look back at angry romanian)
FC: That's a deal. You passed. Move faster next time.
1: I AM STANDING HERE! HOLDING CASH!
(1 throws down a stack of cash on the table, some falls behind on my table. I pick it back up and place it on his stack)
FC: You dropped some back here, don't want you thinking I shorted you or stole your money. I've got to write up these gentlemen, we're here until 5 today if you need anything else
1: (shouts at me in angry romanian while gesticulating like George Costanza complaining to Elaine about taking credit for the big salad)
FC: I'm sorry about that guy, he's got some issues. That man needs therapy not another gun
2: all good nigga all good that mofo gonna get his ass beat someday
FC: Today I didn't even have to use my AK, I got to say it was a good day
3: sheeeeeit he knows ice cube! this nigga og!
FC: Catholic school for the win!
(we fist bump)
I piss off at least one person every show. Sometimes it's good to get it out of the way in the first hour, lets you concentrate on the bigger picture things.
Three down.
10AM: Guy points at a green Glock 43 and Glock 19 Gen 4 that I have. They're each tagged at $725. Cash comes out and I write up the sale. Three women in a row snag black Glock 43's from me at $700 each. We are cranking now!
Eight down before lunch. This is getting wild.
11AM: Colt Lightweight Commander - tagged at $1050. Sells for cash. Colt Combat Unit - tagged at $1450 Sells for cash. Glock 19 MOS Gen 4 - tagged at $825. Sells for cash. Two of them back to back. Gen 4 straight 19 tagged at 775 sells on Amex. Background checks begin to start bogging down.
Thirteen down before I can even touch my sammich.
12PM: I write up three ruger LCP's in a row at $300 each. I eat half my sandwich as I sell a Kel Tec Sub 2000 at $825. Springfield Hellcat tagged at $735 goes out on a mastercharge.
Eighteen before I'm done with lunch. Sheeeeit.
1PM: My old buddy Rusty Shackleford sends me some of his collection he does not want the hassle with selling. Three ugly as sin Glock 21's, three semi clean Glock 17's and two super like new 17's. 1PM is profitable as I manage to sell everything except for a 21 and 17. People are paying $650 for PD trade 21's and $700+ on trade in Glock 17's. Why? They're the only ones in the show. Not glocks in general, I mean 21's and 17's.
Twenty four down and I have yet to finish my sandwich.
2PM: I have an immigrant from another country come over and try to buy a gun. He's super patient waiting for me to finish with customers that DO NOT STOP. Springfield XD goes out at $600. That's 25. He hands me the clipboard and I immediately stop everything I'm doing and I look down at the form.
Not only has he forgotten 10A and 12.d.2 but he's put the city in the county box and answered the firearm is not for him and he's been convicted of misdemeanor DV. I sigh and hand the form back to him for corrections.
FC: Okay, what county are we in?
1: (names city)
FC: What COUNTY are we in?
1: oh! USA!
FC: What COUNTY is this city in?
1: (names city)
FC: We're in (names county)
1: Ohhhhh thats right
FC: Who's this gun for? You or someone else?
1: Me
FC: Is there any reason you've indicated you are NOT the actual purchaser?
1: Not good at reading the form I guess
FC: Strike out intiial and date the change
1: Okay
FC: Have you been convicted of a misdemanor crime of domestic violence?
1: No it was just a misdemeanor
FC: Is there a reason why you said "yes I have been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence?"
1: oh man I screwed that up
FC: Initial and date the change
(He fixes the front of the form and signs on 14 and dates on 15. I turn the page. He's written his passport number expiration date in the ID field and indicated that NICS has denied him)
FC: Is there any reason you wrote your passport expiration date and number here?
1: Well I'm supposed to do that, right?
(FC points to line that says SECTION B MUST BE COMPLETED BY SELLER)
1: Oh man
FC: Is there any reason you checked DENIED on the NICS result box?
1: did I do that?
(FC points to the box where he's put a big bold X under DENIED)
1: Was I not supposed to do that?
(FC hands him another form to complete)
3PM: It is now over an hour to get this 4473 done. His wife and child have to help him with the form. I finish my sammich as I look at the front of his form and it is still marked "firearm is being purchased for someone not me" and he has to correct it. I turn the page. The date is marked 9/8/2020.
FC: What day is today?
1: Saturday
FC: No I mean what day is today, what calendar day?
(1 pulls out his phone)
1: Oh. You want me to do another form?
FC: No, strike out using a single line. And using WORDS - write the date.
1: gotcha
(FC looks down at the form. the date is struck out using a single line. It now reads in words SATURDAY 9/8/2020)
FC: What day is it?
1: It's saturday.
FC: Saturday the.........
1: Fifteeenth?
FC: Then explain why this says 9/8/2020?
1: Oh man you want me to do another form?
FC: Just fill it out using WORDS AS THE DATE - MONTH/DAY/YEAR
1: okay I got you
(FC hands the form back for correction)
1: I got it now! Man was that hard!
(FC looks down at the form. SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 8 2020)
FC: Take out your phone
(1 takes out his phone and presses the home button)
FC: Look at the date. What does it say and look at what you wrote.
1: Oh man
FC: Is it possible for us to get the correct date?
1: Yeah man I'm so sorry....
FC: Take out your phone and write out the date in letters and words EXACTLY AS YOUR PHONE DISPLAYS IT
1: Okay I can do that
(FC looks down at the form. 3:23 SATURDAY AUGUST 15. Fuck it, this is as good as it gets.)
FC: Close enough. Give me your ID.
(I write up my last Glock 19. It's tagged at $825. He pays cash without blinking.)
I mean, I've seen some shit but WOWWWW.
That's 26.
4PM: The rest of my glocks fly off the table. NIB Glock 36 - tagged at $725, gone. NIB Glock 30SF, tagged at $700, gone. NIB Glock 30, tagged at $700, gone. The only thing left on the table are 17 Gen 5 MOS's at $875 and 43X's at $775 and 44's at $400. That's 29 by 4PM. One guy does not have current ID so I have him go on the fish and game website on his phone and get a fishing license that gets me his up to date address. After 20 minutes he emails me a screencap and he's on his way home with his Glock 30.
5PM: Time to go home! I drop a stack of guns off at the local dealer for transfer on my way out the door and I make it home just before 7PM after stopping at the grocery to pick up dinner. I have a platter of fried chicken and mac and cheese. It is delicious. I get to bed early, tomorrow is going to be a long fucking day.
Sunday August 16th
737AM. I wake up and get my ass to my desk. I need to replenish some of the table. I grab stacks of more guns and get them loaded up and I swing by the grocery store deli on the way to the show. It's 8AM and they are out of bread. As in the bakery has not baked them any bread for sandwiches. For fucks sake. They make me a wrap instead. And they make it WRONG. I am not happy.
10AM: Get to the show and uncover my tables and get cranking. A millennial wants a Ruger LC380 and her fucking debit card does not work. This is why you bring cash to gun shows. It's fucking useless when technology fails AND YOU HAVE NO BACKUP. She transfers money from wells fargo to her boyfriends account at chase and he tries to use the ATM to get her cash. No dice. I swear to jebus, if you take debit cards away from this generation all of them will starve to death and die alone. Gun number 30 for the weekend is hard fought but it's done.
11AM: Crank off a Sig 1911 for a guy. He sends a stand in to pick it up for him since his son is exempt from waiting period but he isn't. It goes like this.
1: I'm gonna buy this gun instead
FC: why?
1: that's none of your business
FC: Yes it is. Purchase of firearm with intent to resell is unlawful
1: What I do with the gun after I get it, if I want to sell it to my dad is my business not yours
FC: No dice. Take a hike
Dad: Lets just do it his way, he wants to give it to the other dealer that's what we'll do. Sorry for the misunderstanding.
I write up 31 for the weekend. My jack sack is full of cash.
12PM: I got a guy come over, former law enforcement wanting to buy his kid a gun. He wants to do the paperwork and pay me and the gun is for his kid. I say if the gun is for the kid, he needs to do it. I shake off the forms and get the kid on the clipboard and everything goes smooth and I rack up a sale for a trade in FN FNS. That's 32.
1PM: Old school NYPD beat cop comes over wanting a deal on a springfield 1911 Long Beach Operator
1: They're 1911's! They're not popular anymore! Make me a deal!
FC: ANYTHING with a barrel and a trigger is popular right now. Best deal you're getting is on the tag, which is 1250 plus tax and call in that puts you right near 1350.
1: Come on, hook a brother up!
FC: That's the rate on everything, we're selling it out as fast as we can get it! Excuse me as I help these other people......
2PM: Lady comes by and says she wants a shield EZ. I ask her why. She says her man and her firearm instructor says she cant rack the slide. I pick up a Sig 220 off the table and tell her to show me. She racks the slide. I ask her how does it feel to rack a slide properly? She spends the rest of the day wondering why they lied to her. Another lady asks me for suggestions for a first gun. I ask her what she's shot before. Answer: Nothing. She cannot rent guns and try them out because every range is booked for firearm rentals for the next 2 months out. Yeah.........
Brooklyn 99 comes back over and taps on the LB operator
1: Come on man, hook a brother up!
FC: That's the price, the LB operators are a sexy gun and they're not coming out of the warehouse very often
1: Come on brother! I'm just looking for a deal! How about 1200 all in?
FC: Cash or card?
1: Card
FC: No dice.
1: Come on brother! (more pleading for a discount)
At this point the crowd at the table has heard this guy trying to get a discount for a few minutes and I've had enough.
FC: Let me ask you a question
1: Sure thing
FC: Do you have pictures of my nephews on your phone?
1: No
FC: Did you spend thanksgiving dinner at my house?
1: No
FC: Are you a named beneficiary on my will?
1: No
FC: Then guess what? You're not my brother. Hell, without your money you're not even my customer.
You could hear the snickers from the peanut gallery as I gave the guy a dressing down. I wasn't about to let him off the hook. I still had an out in the deck to play and I was going to use it.
FC: Now, if you want this gun - you want it at a discount, I respect that. Here's what I"ll do. You feeling lucky?
1: Always!
FC: Here's the clipboard. Give me a straight form, no strike outs, no errors, no mistakes, NOTHING that needs correction - I'll give it to you for 1200 on a card flat. I hand the pen back to you to fix something, I write it at 1400 all in. $200's the action, you in or you out?
1: getoutttahere
FC: I'm serious. You want the discount, get the form right and you got what you want. If there's even one error, I keep the two bills.
1: It's a bet! Lets go! I've done this hundreds of times without a problem!
I hand him the clipboard and he starts filling out the form. The peanut gallery is now fervently watching for the results as if it were not already a foregone conclusion. The fans had no idea but they were watching a fixed horse race. My dealer neighbor at the next table over chimes in.
Neighbor: hey, are you seriously taking action?
FC: ALWAYS!
Neighbor: What's the money?
FC: two bucks
Neighbor: High stakes!
FC: You haven't seen high stakes yet.
Neighbor: You're a character. I'm glad that romanian guy didn't get that rifle yesterday, he was such a pain in the ass. Like even I was annoyed by it and it wasn't even my stuff.
FC: I know, right? You snooze, you lose.
Neighbor: But really, can I get in on the 4473 bet?
FC: You can take the bookmaker out of the catholic school but.....
NYPD: I'm all done! Lets see my new $1200 gun!
(I pick up the forms and his ID and credit card and look at the forms. 12.d.2. is blank. I hand pen back to him and point at 12.d.2.)
FC: Forgot 12.d.2. That's $1400 on your Amex, sign here.
NYPD: MOTHERFUCKER THAT WASN'T ON THERE LAST TIME!
FC: When was the last time you filled out that form?
NYPD: 2012
FC: That's why. Here's your new gun, thank you for your action.
Neighbor: How often does that bet win?
FC: My house edge on that bet is 100%.
Neighbor: Shit. That's fucking hilarious. Now I know how you got that watch. I just picked up a 50th anniversary sub myself (he shows me his sub and we rap about horology for a bit.)
33 down.
3PM: ONE HOUR TO GO! I write up a shield 2.0 9mm for a lady and her hubs for $650. One lady gets unhinged when I tell her she's not going to get her gun today on account of background check volume. She starts terrorizing me with WHY CANT I GET MY GUN TODAY?!?!?!??!?! This isn't dealing with Al-Quaeda, this is Al-Karen. Last minute sale 10 minutes before the show closes cleans me out of Ruger LC9's tagged at $450. 35 down. One guy snags a Glock 43X from me for $775.
36 for the weekend makes me a happy boy. I look at all the sales in cash and credit cards and I've booked quite the fat stack of cash. I've done a month's worth of business in TWO DAYS.
4PM: Show is closed. I start packing up. The dealer across from me has Gen 5 Glock 34's tagged at $1000, 9mm at $575/thousand and 380 at $750/thousand. We rap about the state of the industry. It's just gonna get worse closer to the election. I pack up and get all my stuff loaded up.
530PM: Homeward bound........I wish I was........HOMEWARD BOUND..............
730PM: I get back to my desk and dump off a fucking STACK of 4473's. I make a bank drop for the cash and I unload and head back home. I'm starving, so I decide to have the deli re-make their culinary abortion of a wrap.
8PM: The deli is out of bread AGAIN. Are you fucking kidding me? The deli is out of bread at 8AM and 8PM? What is this bullshit..... the deli clerk takes an entire loaf of italian sandwich bread and uses it to make me a single sandwich. My colon is about to hate me. I'm waiting in line to have the cashier comp me as I see a big tall gun guy from the gun club walk in. I yell and wave since I'm wearing a mask and he comes over.
815PM: Tim O'Toole is a big giant irish gun nut criminal defense attorney that I know from the gun club. He is an aggressive and in your face about how wrong you are if you are wrong and at 6'6" he cuts an imposing presence on any courtroom he walks into. He's just bought a house in my neighborhood and we start chatting guns. He asks me if I have a Glock 17 Gen 3 9mm barrel for his latest build and I tell him that I've probably got 3 sitting on my desk. I jump on my phone and check pricing. Wholesale + $5 for him since he helps out a lot out at the gun club and he says it's a deal. He goes and gets groceries and I eat my meat tornado of a sandwich at home.
Monday August 17th
10AM: Tim comes by right on time for his barrel and asks what else I have. I have a Glock 43 come off layaway and go back into rotation and he snaps up that and a 43X and a whole litany of extra parts, glock 17 gen 3 firing pin, channel liner, trigger bars, extra mags, etc. My 1 item sale I set up in line at the grocery store is now a 15 item $2500 sale. And he wants even more stuff that I can't get! We rap about the best legal film ever made, My Cousin Vinny. He gets every judge to approve his demand to videotape depositions and witness statements. Why? "I shot the clerk" - you have to watch the movie to understand this reference. Every time a judge asks him why he wants it on tape he simply says "I shot the clerk" and since we are in the deep south and every judge that's been stuck in the Louisiana mud knows the film My Cousin Vinny, his motion is approved. I laughed my ass off. I told him I was very much looking forward to regaling the federal judge with some witty banter that went along the lines of "the two utes" and he laughed his ass off. I really wanted to pull that stunt.
11AM: Lady comes in to pick up a layway and she can't fill out the 4473 and wear a mask at the same time. She also cannot stop talking. She drives me nuts but I hold it together long enough to get her stuff worked up. She also asks me to get her a Glock 23 Gen 4. I tell her it won't be cheap and it's probably going to set her back $850 by the time I beat the bushes and line one up. She says no problem, Visa okay? Done. I get a Glock 23 Gen 4 off one of my dealer buddies in NC and get it squared away.
12PM: Lunctime. It's Salmon Hollandaise special at this new market just down the road from me and I stop in and say hi. It's like a small version of Eataly. I went to high school with the owners daughters and he's got 5 million bucks into this concept. Wine bar, cafe, grocery, NY bagels delivered daily, ramen bar, raw bar, restaurant, the whole 9 yards. Amazing. The fish is delish and on the way out I run into a guy I went to ELEMENTARY school with that's now the general manager. He offers me a job managing the seafood department and I am seriously considering it given how screwed up the gun market is.
1PM: Back at my desk, have eaten the salmon and the hollandaise has found a home in my thighs. I am fat and sassy. I sell the remaning 380 I have to a customer picking up a Sig P238 and she's super stoked to get a gun.
2PM: Random walk in. Local restaurant owner that I sold a Sig 227 to a few months ago wants me to put in an SRT kit. He's disassembled the entire frame and wants me to put it togther. I explain that an SRT install is normally 5 minutes. This is easily a 45 minute job to reassemble and that's IF he has all the parts. He says he has all the parts. I begin putting the gun back together. He does not have all the parts. He goes home and says he will look harder for the missing part.
3PM: I look online for the missing part. It's $5 and 4 weeks to ship and in stock at most vendors. This sucks. I call some favors and I know of one in the mid atlantic area I can get here in a week in case he can't find it. As I get off the phone he walks in with the missing part.
Just an FYI for the readers. In ten years, I have had "bag o gun" come through the door on three previous occasions.
First: Sig 229 from local PD. Chief took it apart, couldn't put it back together. Had no backup gun and had to go on duty in a few hours, I was asked to put it together.
Second: My buddy Bruce in PA. He detail stripped his 220 and got it wrong. I put it back together and sent it back to PA.
Third: Rusty and his 226. See above. He missed some parts. I put it back together and sent it back to Texas.
If anyone thinks they see a pattern here it's because there IS a pattern here.
I start work on the 227 and this thing is a bitch and a half. The ejector, which is a 25 cent stamped metal part is not to spec. Sig's QC sucks. Their 3mm hole PRECISELY stamped in one place isn't 3mm and isn't precise. The sear pin that has to go through the left side of the frame, through the ejector, through the left side of the sear, through the sear reset spring, through the other side of the sear, through the safety lever and through the right side of the frame is NOT COOOPERATING because the ejector is too tight. I have to beat on this thing with a drilling hammer to get it to go. 45 minutes of anger and frustration later, 227 is back in action with the garbage one piece E2 grips.
For this pain, I bill $100. He tells me he should have had me do it in the first place. I say he's right but it's a tough job doing Sig classic pistols right. They're a very challenging platform.
4PM: I ship off some more 5.56 brass and pay my buddy Ray. I head home.
5PM: Beef jerky time.
I hope you all enjoyed these stories. They have not been embellished because they need no embellishment. Stay tuned for my next story where I post about the state of the firearm industry!
God bless and have a wonderful Saturday.

US Open Women's Round 1 <3

The theme of the first round on the women’s side seems to be lopsided matches if you’re to trust the bookmakers. Many of the favorites are wildly inflated due to some lesser known players getting direct entry in the draw, and while I do think most of the favorites will come through, since the WTA doesn’t generally feature a number of dominant serves, 2/3 matches often feature much closer contests than the prices offered. Buyer beware I guess, and this tournament has a number of unfortunately superb first round contests.
Pliskova Kalinina : Pliskova just didn’t look sharp in her 1st round exit in Cincinnati. I don’t think she’ll look much better here for a few rounds, and Cincinnati was her 3rd loss in a row. Kalinina is on a similar streak, and so while Pliskova is likely to struggle at times in this event, she should advance to the second round. Pliskova in 2.
Paolini Garcia : This one jumps out as a match where Garcia will have a big edge in power but will have to hit multiple shots to end rallies. Paolini is a good lefty and plays a big behind the baseline which gives her time to defend, but gives up a bit too much pressure and that’s what generally hurts Garcia. Garcia in 2.
Bellis Korpatsch : Bellis is listed at like -1200 or something like that and that is just plain ridiculous. I think Bellis (given Pliskova’s struggles) has a good chance to make a deep run in this section, but Korpatsch is coming off a nice streak of wins and will work her way onto the tour by the end of the year. Bellis will be better on this day, but this will not just be a walkover. Bellis in 2.
Blinkova Brady : Brady was the hottest player coming into Cincinnati and exited quickly at the hands of Pegula. Blinkova is a good baseliner but Brady will be able to dictate most of the rallies here. Barring fatigue or a day plagued with unforced errors, she should come through here. Brady in 2.
Kerber Tomljanovic : This is another tough first round for Ajla, but a good opportunity as well. Kerber has declined a good bit her last few seasons and the form that saw her win a few majors doesn’t seem to appear more than 2-3 weeks a year. Is it a motivation issue? An awkwardly positive article was put out a week ago indicating Kerber was excited to get back on the court and compete. I only describe it as awkward because the new trend of turning a single tweet into a news article is, well, awkward. A motivated Kerber against a surging Tomljanovic is a close affair, but Kerber will likely have an edge as this match goes on. Kerber in 3.
Dolehide Friedsam : Dolehide has the best kick serve on the women’s tour, but booms the ball long in a similar way to Sabalenka. She gets a lot of height on her forehand and reminds me a bit of an unpolished Andreescu. She’s been around the edge of the tour for a few years and seems fitter than ever, but the results just haven’t come. Friedsam’s return to tour has come with a lot of victories in smaller events, and this is a winnable match for both of them. Dolehide will need to keep the ball on the court at all costs, as her power can overwhelm Friedsam in the long run. Friedsam, on the other hand will be looking to move the larger player and focus on the backhand wing. I won’t back an inconsistent server until they string match wins together. Friedsam in 3.
Li Rus : This one is set verrrrry close according to the bookmakers, and is opposite of what I’d expect. Rus has turned in two excellent weeks of tennis, and while Li has made improvements, I’d expect Rus to be the larger market here. -150 makes me hesitant. Rus is ranked higher by 60 places, just went 3 sets with Serena Willians, and won 4 rounds in Cincinnati. Li has some good qualifier wins against Kuzmova and Diyas, and that coupled with this line makes me go against my gut and think this one will be close. Rus hadn’t really had much success with multiple wins on tour until this year, so there could be a slump, and an anonymous tipster did message me after Li’s loss to Muchova last week saying Li had really improved. Rus in 3.
Maria Riske : Tatjana Maria is the ideal foil for Riske’s game. She hits a lot of slices, basically only wins as an underdog, and has that veteran ability to remain calm and win against younger players who “should” win. Riske hits much bigger, but has problems with the forehand which compound when she strings losses together. I do think she’ll win here, but she’s prone to going three and turns in more 7-5 sets than anyone else on tour. Riske in 3.
Voundrousova Minnen : This line is a puzzle with Voundrousova coming in at an inflated -550ish, but both players are slumping so I guess it makes sense. Marketa seems like she can win any event when she gets her game together, but is 0-4 in her last few matches. Greet Minnen can play a better brand of tennis than her line would imply, but an 0-4 stretch of her own isn’t inspiring. If Voundrousova can get going she becomes a very dangerous player, as her game fits nicely into the somewhat fatigued long rallies that show up in the second week of a major. Voundrousova in 3.
Di Lorenzo Sasnovich : Aliaksandra Sandwich is one of my favorite journeywomen on tour. She’s been playing on clay, but she generally wins all the matches she’s supposed to and loses all the ones she’s supposed to as well. It’s somewhat high praise on the WTA as streaky results are somewhat par for the course even for the top tier. DiLorenzo has had a middling 2020, but hasn’t shown that she can compete on Sasnovich’s level yet. Sandwich time in 2.
Golubic Lapko : Golubic is a bit more relevant on tour at this juncture in their career, and Lapko’s been struggling a bit. Neither player is sharp, so they’ll both be happy to have drawn the other. Someone in 3 but really no way to know.
Montgomery Putintseva : Montgomery is 15 years old and playing in her first major. She won an ITF 25k event earlier this year, beating Xiaodou Yu and Sebov, fairly good wins to indicate her future. How she’ll fare against Putintseva is a question mark, but the -900 price tag attached to Putintseva is wildly inflated. Montgomery should be able to win at least a few games, but at this juncture they’re in different weight classes. Putintseva in 2 and a bright future for Montgomery.
Mladenovic Baptiste : Mladenovic put up more of a fight than expected in Cincinnati, and is a clear favorite here. A good match to get the skillful player going, and a winnable round 2 as well could see a resurgence of Mladenovic’s season. Baptiste has just lost 4 of the last 5, but she’s only 18, so this is a good opportunity to get some ranking points and experience. Mladenovic in 3 unless she Mladenovic’s.
Gracheva Badosa : Paula Badosa is pretty solid on clay, and Gracheva isn’t exactly a stalwart on tour, but her hardcourt game should prove a slight nudge above. Gracheva in 2.
Bondarenko Kiick : These are cool names. Bondarenko in 2.
Martincova Martic : Martic is a big favorite here, and while matchups between countrywomen tend to be a bit fuzzy, she should win. She’s always been a slow starter though, and Martincova doesn’t just go away. Martic in 3.
Osaka Doi : Misaki Doi is tiny, lefty, and outperforms her natural physical ability. Osaka is the best player on the women’s tour when she’s in form, and she just spent a week playing near the top of her game. The withdrawal from the W&S is puzzling and there is a big question mark as to how this week will go for her. If she takes the court, she’ll win. Osaka in 2.
Giorgi Van Uytvanck : Camila Giorgi has managed to find a number of wins in the past 8 months after really being so inconsistent on tour that she was becoming the new Bouchard. V.U. has a great serve and that helps on these courts, but in the rallies Giorgi will be able to dictate and her movement is pretty solid. Giorgi in 3.
Kostyuk Kasatkina : Kostyuk hits big and serves well. The projections for her game were not as high as Kastkina, but her recent results have been much better. Kasatkina on a fast court will likely continue to struggle, and hopefully her talent and skill will net her some ranking points at the French Open. Kostyuk in 2.
Gauff Sevastova : The hits keep coming for Sevastova. It’s been a backwards slump on tour for a lot of the players employing the dropshot/slice game. She could create a frustrating challenge for Gauff but Gauff has shown that she is named Gauff. Just checking to see if you’re still reading. Gauff can move the ball comfortably and will net extra points on her serve. Her speed is going to negate a lot of Sevastova’s attack, and Anastasia will find her serve the biggest liability. I expect Gauff to struggle with errors as the finish line becomes obvious to her, but she should be able to break often. Gauff in 2.
Linette Inglis : Magda Linette has been hinting at a push into the higher tiers of the game, but seems to fair much better at home in Europe. Inglis is a good qualifier, but isn’t quite up to the tour level yet. Linette in 2.
Kovinic Cabrera : Kovinic looked the better of these two in the exhibition season that just passed, and was unfortunate to meet a resurgent Zvonareva first round in the last event. Cabrera is young and there’s still time to improve. She could eke out a victory here but the edge goes to Danka. Kovinic in 3.
Arconada Juvan : Arconada is getting a lot of burn around the American circuit, but with my somewhat biased view of American tennis, that’s not going to get her over the finish line here. Kaja Juvan can ball, and ball she will. Juvan in 2.
Collins Kontaveit : This has to be getting frustrating for Collins. Two weeks in a row with an extremely difficult first round while ITF players are competing against 125k 3rd rounders. Kontaveit was a few points from putting Osaka away, and there’s nothing to suggest she won’t have had enough time to recover. The week after a deep run is a classic letdown spot, and Collins can get going in a major way with her big groundstrokes, but Kontaveit is likely to have the larger strokes on this day. Kontaveit in 2.
Rybakina Zavatska : A quick loss for Rybakina last week was sort of disappointing, as I think she’d have matched up better the next round with Mchale. This will be a good restart, as Zavastka is a few rungs below on the WTA ladder. Rybakina in 2.
Khromacheva Rogers : Khromacheva is the coolest name. If I had a robot cat, a sentient highlighter, a vicious cyborg dictator, an automated rainbow, a russian pokemon, or a really jacked lizard that competed in jujitsu I would name it that. Rogers has her work cut out for her here, but she’s logged more time on the courts and is in the best shape of her life. Rogers in 3.
Brengle Tsurenko : Interesting matchup as Brengle goes straight ahead and battles in most of her matches. It’s not an overly skillful approach but it is admirable, and while she struggles to generate weak returns with her serve Tsurenko is a somewhat safe opponent to roll the ball in against. Tsurenko is the polar opposite, employing a variety of different shots to frustrate and take her opponents out of rhythm. She plays a great deal of defense, and while she has been somewhat injury prone, I think she has the edge here. Tsurenko in 2.
Sharma Yastremska : Tough draw for Sharma. Yastremska smashes the ball and will keep doing so. Her leg injury from last week could be an issue as she navigates through this week, but it shouldn’t shut her down here. Yastremska in 2, despite greasy Bajin following her around mumbling about his precious.
Peterson Flipkens : I swear these two just played each other. They didn’t though, and while Flipkens beat Siniakova, I’m inclined to believe something is off with Katerina in this short stretch and Peterson has the better recent results. Peterson in 2 nice sets of good quality wholesome tennis.
Bouzkova Pegula : Some of these first round matchups are sad. Bouzkova had a nice run last week and Pegula played some of her best tennis ever. This match has one difference and that’s Pegula hitting the ball a good deal harder than Bouzkova. If she falters on offense she’ll drop a set, but it’ll be her in control of most of the rallies once she gets a swing. Pegula in a very tiring 3 sets.
Kozlova Osiugwe : Katerina Kozlova is always around, and always able to win enough to stay on tour. Osuigwe is a good youth talent (from the same season as Gauff), and has threatened at being ready to make the move up but not done much when she gets close. This is a new season after a long break and it’s possible that she’s made a major improvement. If not, Kozlova in 2.
Begu Kvitova : I didn’t catch Kvitova’s loss to Bouzkova but Bouszkova’s play after that was pretty legit. Kvitova should be ok for this one, but this is a dangerous matchup as well. Begu serves great and crushes the ball, and a marathon match (although on clay) with Leonnie Kung will have her frustrated, but intent on netting letting any further chances slip. Possible upset here if Kvitova’s game is in a slump. Kvitova most likely in a tiebreaker or two.
Keys Babos : Babos hasn’t done much on tour but she has a big forehand. That is a problem here as Keys has the biggest forehand. The errors will go both ways, but I think Keys will find her way to the second round which is wonderful for me if Teichmann lands as an underdog against her. Keys in 2.
Teichmann Bolsova : Teichmann is one of the 5-6 players who made incredible strides over the break. Bolsova is relatively unknown on tour and prefers clay. Teichmann is too good right now. Teichmann in 2.
Davis Cornet : Good winnable match for Cornet, who played well last week also. I’m noticing in writing this that I’m putting more weight than I want to in who won matches last week. Styles are also very important for deciding tennis, and Davis is the sort of defender who can frustrate Cornet. This is bad timing to play defense against Cornet though, as she’s just defeated Kenin and pushed Azarenka in two competitive sets. Cornet in 2.
Bonaventure Zhang : Good chance for Ysaline to nab a win. She sometimes plays excellent tennis, and she’ll get a chance to as Zhang wasn’t exactly crisp last week. I’m not gonna pretend I know who’s going to win. I went to elementary school with a girl named Bonaventure though which is cool.
Vekic Pliskova : Vekic lost to Azarenka but who didn’t. The thought here is that she’ll get back on track, but Pliskova is a dangerous opponent. Krystina has a big serve, and being lefty is very frustrating for some opponents. She’s been playing clay, but she’s been playing very well, whereas Vekic has been dropping matches left and right. Pliskova in 2.
Tig Nara : Tig’s been more active on tour, playing most events this year before the break. Nara stays local more often, but she won their only previous meeting. While Tig’s been active, she hasn’t been winning. Nara in 3.
Pironkova Samsonova : Samsonova is one of the best new players on tour. Similar to Rybakina, she has big groundstrokes and covers the court well for a slightly taller player. She has issues with fatigue late in matches, but should finish this one off in two. Samsonova in 2.
Hibino Muguruza : Nao Hibino is good for some upsets now and then, but mostly bows out by the third round. Muguruza is at times not in the right mindset to push through adversity on court, but she looked reaaaaaally good at times early this season, and she’s been working hard on her fitness and on making videos of her fitness this offseason. Could take a while to find the court, but Muguruza in 3.
Sakkari Voegele : Voegele is a good mid level tour player, but Sakkari got a hint of victory last week and a setback against Konta (who really was on a roll) won’t hurt. Sakkari in 2.
Pera Diyas : I keep scrolling down but the matches keep coming. How many can there be? Luckily, I am pretty interested in this one. Pera took a set off Serena, and has snagged a few wins recently. Being a lefty is big in any sport, and she can keep developing. Part of that development will be hitting through players who are adept at defense, and Zarina Diyas is one such player. She’s fast, consistent, and composed. This will be an excellent win for either player, and since Pera’s been more active but Diyas is the slightly more established player, it should be a great contest. Diyas in threeyas.
Vikhlyantseva Scott : Vikh hasn’t been great on tour, and Scott has racked up 4/5 wins in the exhibition season. Grass is Vikh’s specialty, and she could struggle here to find an edge against a surging young talent. I’ve never seen Scott play, and it’s tough in the matches available to see how her game will stack up against the tour. Vikh in 3, but I would not be surprised at an upset here.
Tomova Anisimova : Anisimova hasn’t slumped the way I’d expected, and Tomova is a good 1st round for her. Anisimova in 2.
Stephens Buzarnescu : Everyone gets a turn to beat Stephens! Buzarnescu has the bad attitude that Sloane should have, but not quite the same level of slump. Buz cruise is much better on clay, but this is a winnable match for her. The USO is the only tournament that Sloane really plays well, and with Osaka potentially injured, and Andreescu and Halep sitting it out, it has to kinda get her attention? We hope? Pls? Pls try Sloane? Probably Buzarnescu in 2, but maybe Sloane wlll win and we can get excited before she loses to Govortsova in 2.
Diatchenko Govortsova : Govortsova in 2. Why? It’s a secret.
Gasparyan Puig : This is a who’s worse match. Neither have won a single set in their last five tennis matches, which is surprising as both of them are professional tennis players. Puig has won 2 out of 3 matchups, but Gasparyan snagged the most recent one. I think Puig is more likely to find form within a slump, as she’s used to being in a slump. Puig in 3.
Ahn Williams : No more tears, Serena. Here is a perfect opponent to beat. Ahn plays a smart game, but doesn’t have the pace to hit Serena off the court. Williams in 2 and she has a good chance to tie the record in this one if she can avoid long matches in the early going.
Sabalenka Dodin : Very similar players. Sabalenka is the larger of the two, and while she struggles against the top of the tour, she has a pretty good track record of winning 3rd sets she doesn’t belong in. Sabalenka in 3.
Azarenka Haas : Azarenka with a title last week makes me smile. She really never stopped working hard even though myself and many others were writing off her chances of being a factor on tour again. Azarenka in 2.
Vickery Townsend : I saw an article saying it was unfortunate for Vickery to get a wildcard and run into an American in the draw. I think it’s unfortunate that a talented athlete like Vickery can’t get good enough coaching to add variety to her game so that she can get onto the tour and not need a wildcard. Vickery crushes the ball and moves great. She tends to hang too far behind the baseline, and this is her main issue. Townsend has such a cool game. She has a great attitude, and displays a level of racquetskill and variety that makes me think she could be the # racquetball player in less than a year. This will be a match similar to Lopez vs Carballes Baena in that one player’s offense to errors ratio will decide who wins. I do think Townsend struggles at times on defense and could use some more training, but she should win this. Townsend in 3.
Swiatek Kudermetova : The hero of the W&S vs the slumping talent. Swiatek stuck around and played doubles for at least a few rounds, which I always think is a good sign players are looking to get back on track. Swiatek is struggling, and Kudermetova just beat the 1 seed last week. There’s reason to expect both players to come though, but I think it will require 3 sets to decide. I lean Swiatek in 3, but would not be surprised if Kudermetova was able to earn the errors.
Muchova Williams : Muchova plays some great tennis in the early rounds, and crushes the ball. Williams does the same. This is an offensive battle, and given what we saw from Venus against Serena, there is a lot of fight left in Venus. I’ll be crushing pistachios and icewater for this one, and I do expect Muchova to win as the crowd would be the biggest benefit to Venus, whom I expect to start slow. Muchova in 3.
Kalinskaya Stojanovic : Tough but fair first round for both. Similar results on tour and I’d give a small edge to Kalinskaya on talent and Stojanovic on recent performance. Someone in 3.
Cirstea Mchale : Cirstea and Dodin were the same person in my mind for a long time, but Cirstea has really upped her game. Mchale is the wrong opponent for this though, as she tends to defend well and really execute the pusher mentality. Cirstea is a bit better indoors, and has a question mark next to her until she beats players like Mchale. Mchale in 2.
Watson Konta : This one seems a bit underpriced, even though Konta is -600. Watson has never beaten Konta, and Konta pretty much was at her best serving and attacking last week. I didn’t see anyone else really pressing Azarenka in the same way. Watson could steal a set because she is a solid server, but Konta was also defending well last week. Konta in 2.
Mertens Siegemund : There were a lot of winners last week in an event that to me looked like a warmup run for the US Open. Mertens was one of those, and this will be her best chance so far in her career to win a major. I filled out some brackets last night on a lark, and without realizing it I had her winning. It starts here, and while Siegemund has really become a solid performer, she’s a cut behind. Mertens in 2-3.
Liu Sorribes Tormo : Tormo in 2.
Kuzmova Mcnally : Kuzmova has struggled recently, and this could be Mcnally’s first chance at racking up some good points. It’ll be a tight one, but a win against Pera in exhibitions means she can at least hang at this level. Kuzmova in 3 or maybe Mcnally’s first upset.
Clijsters Alexandrova : Clijsters hasn’t really won since she came back, and while she played some inspiring tennis early on and you can still see the skill, it seems like Alexandrova will be a tough ask here. This is a double win round as well with Mcnally/Kuzmova waiting, and players will be hyperaware of these situations especially at a major. Alexandrova in 2.
Jabeur Kawa : Jabeur has a bit too much for most players even though she got blanked just last week. The comp will have to be better than Kawa to press her into errors. Jabeur in 2.
Siniakova Kanepi : Good chance Siniakova is not going to perform here, as she’s struggled since the tour returned. The bookmakers agree, as this has been slated as a pickem even though Kanepi only shows up for the 4 majors in most years. Kanepi crushes the ball, and generally can compete with anyone on tour in the early rounds. Age will become a factor at some point, but she’s shown a pretty reliable ability to show up and win. Kanepi in 2.
Zvonareva Fernandez : Fernandez is really getting a rough start to her WTA career. Zvonareva last year would be a winnable match. As it stands now she was one of the better players last week and hitting big is something that can trouble Leylah at this juncture as evident from her L to Shelby (recently found out this is short for Shelberto) Rogers. This would be a big win for Fernandez, but I don’t think it comes yet. Zvonareva in 2.
Wickmayer Kenin : Kenin looked bad last week, but this is a somewhat simple match to get her back on track. There’s a good chance she’ll go down to Zvonareva in the second round if she doesn’t clean up her errors, so I’ll be watching this one. Kenin in 2.
